Tableau Components:

There are seven types of Tableau components.

  1. Tableau Desktop
  2. Tableau Server
  3. Tableau Public
  4. Tableau Reader
  5. Tableau Online
  6. Tableau Mobile
  7. Tableau Data prep

Tableau Desktop:

Tableau Desktop is a data visualization application that helps you analyze any type of structured data & produce highly interactive visualizations, dashboards & stories.

The whole development phase of workbooks is done by using Tableau Desktop. The developer uses the application to meet the requirements of business groups by developing the worksheets, dashboards and story boards. Tableau Desktop application can connect to any kind of data source and transform the data as per the requirement. Using the application, we can create the interactive dashboards and dynamic visualizations by creating new calculations, parameters and adding the filters.

Tableau Server:

Tableau Server is a Central Repository for all the dashboards and data sources of an Enterprise. Users can use Server URL to view and interact with the dashboards.

Dashboards and Data sources are deployed on the servers through Tableau Desktop. The Developer or Admin provides the access to the user with certain set of permissions as per their role.

Tableau Server also provides the Web editing option for the authorized users. Web editing has limited development options as compared to Tableau Desktop.

 Tableau Public:

Tableau public is a free service provided by Tableau Software that lets any user to publish their dashboards on the Tableau Public Server. All the content is owned by Tableau. The Tableau Public functionality is similar to Tableau Desktop. In Tableau Public, you cannot save anything on your machine but you can publish them to your public profile available on Tableau public server.

Tableau Reader:

It is a free viewing application that allows any user to read and interact with workbooks created by Tableau Desktop. We can only view the packaged workbook (TWBX).

 Tableau online:

Tableau online is a Cloud based Tableau Server. Organizations can publish their dashboards on the cloud. Only authorized users can interact with the data & dashboards.

Tableau mobile:

It is a mobile application available in both the App Store and Google Play. It is the application to have the data at your fingertips and get the insight with the interactive dashboards. To access any dashboards on the Tableau Mobile, we need Tableau Online or Tableau Server Account of an Organization.

Tableau Data prep:

Tableau data prep is a recent addition to tableau’s set of applications. It is a data preparation tool that enables users to perform data cleansing and transformations.
