Specify Orcale Home User
  1. The next screen will contain the important details. The inputs provided here will be used in connecting to the database. Please save this info as you will be requiring it always.

The inputs in this screen are:

  • Oracle base: This is the location for all the Oracle products. This will be the location where all the files and directories like Oracle home will be stored. You can provide a different folder by simply typing it in or leave it as the default location of app, this is where we extracted our installation zip.
  • Software location. This is the location of your db_home directory. We are not allowed to change this directory. That’s why we moved the downloaded installation file to this location.
  • Database file location. This file location will contain all the important files such as Data files, redo log files, control files, server parameter and password files. You can change the location if you want or go with the default location.
  • Database edition. It contains all the different editions of Oracle 19c, such as enterprise edition and standard edition. Select the default enterprise edition.
  • Character Set. This is the character set of your database. Select the default.
  • Next we need to provide Global database name, password and the pluggable database name. These inputs will be needed when we connect to the database. Please save them.
    • Global database name is the name of the database. It will also serve as the SID. We will need this SID while making connections to the database via the client tools like SQL developer. By default it is orcl. You can change it or leave it as default.
    • Password will be the password of the administrative users such as sys or system. If we ever need to logon to the database using an administrative user, use the user name as sys or system and password you provide here. I will provide the password as oracle. Remember this password or save it somewhere.
    • Pluggable database name. Specify a unique pluggable database name. We can change it or leave as default of orclpdb. A warning message will be displayed: “password is not according to Oracle standard” but it will not stop us from the installation.
    • Check the box for Create as Container database. This will create the database as a container. This step will make our database as a container database. A container database supports a maximum of 252 pluggable database.
    • Once again remember to save all of the above details or you will not be able to connect to your database.
    • Click Next. You may get a warning that password is not according to Oracle’s standard, ignore it and click yes to move forward.
